Welcome to AndroidCustomRoms.com. Since you are visiting this
site it is safe to assume you are interested in installing a custom ROM
on your Android device. You may also be wondering what a "ROM"
is. For those of you who don't know a ROM is your Android devices
operating system. Similar to Windows on a PC. A "custom" ROM is a
device specific tailored operating software. installing a custom ROM grants the user the ability to make tweaks and changes and fine tune the way the devices operating system runs. This is not possible with the stock firmware that comes installed when you buy the device from the store. There are different procedures and methods for installing a custom ROM which vary from device to device and manufacturer to manufacturer. Also some devices need to be rooted. Rooting is the process of allowing users of smartphones, tablets and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged control (known as root access) over various Android subsystems. Doing this will allow you to unlock the bootloader of your phone. The bootloader is like the BIOS of a PC and is what starts the operating system. Once you are able to unlock the bootloader you can install a custom recovery for your device, such as clockworkmod or TWRP recovery, in order to install your custom rom. The custom recovery also provides more options as far as creating back-ups and other useful things. Be aware though if you don't know what you are doing or if you don't follow the steps to root your device correctly you can render your device unusable. But if you are able to follow directions and if this sounds like something you would like to try follow the link for more information.
