How to Root and Install ClockworkMod CWM Custom Recovery on HTC One X running Jelly Bean Firmware. HTC rolled out Android 4.2.2 Jelly bean Firmware for HTC One X in Mid-August 2013. If you’re looking forward to installing Custom ROM on your One X then you should know that your device must have ClockworkMod Custom Recovery installed and must be rooted. This guide that I have written will guide you on How to Root and Install CWM Recovery on HTC One X on Jelly Bean Firmware. Before proceeding towards the tutorial, it is recommended that you check out the important tips that I have written below and make sure you fulfil each and every requirement before rooting your device. We don’t want to brick our phone, do we? Let’s move on..

- This root method tutorial is only for HTC One X. Please don’t try this on any other variants of the phone.
- Make sure you backup all your data in your phone before proceeding.

I have written this detailed and easy to understand step-by-step instructions guide on How to Root and Install CWM Recovery on HTC One X on Jelly Bean Firmware. If you are used to rooting your HTC One X, then this should not be any different for you. However, for beginners, it is recommended that you read the whole tutorial before rooting your device.
First, I will show you How to Install ClockworkMod Recovery on your HTC One X and then I will show you How to Root your HTC One X.
How to Root and Install CWM Recovery on HTC One X on Jelly Bean Firmware:
- Download ClockworkMod Recovery File (recovery-clockwork-touch-188.8.131.52-endeavoru.img)
- Download Fastboot Files (Fastboot.zip) [Skip this if you already have fastboot files]
- Download SuperSU zip file (CWM-SuperSU-v0.94.zip)
Important: Make sure that the Bootloader of your HTC One X is unlocked, if not, go to the link that I have provided above in the Important Tips section
Step 1 – Extract the Fastboot.zip file that you downloaded and copy recovery-clockwork-touch-184.108.40.206-endeavoru.img file to Fastboot folder. Then connect your phone to Computer and copy CWM-SuperSU-v.094.zip to your phone.
Step 2 – Now disconnect your phone from Computer, turn it off and boot into Bootloader Mode by Pressing and Holding Volume Down and Power buttons together until Bootloader Mode appears.
Step 3 – Select Fastboot from bootloader menu (Use Volume Up/Down to navigate and Power button to select) and then connect your phone to computer.
Step 4 – Go to the Fastboot folder in your computer that you extracted in Step 1. Hold Shift Key and Right Click on empty space. You’ll see Open Command Prompt Window here, click it, and Command Prompt Window will appear.
Step 5 – Type in the following command and press Enter.
After you press Enter, you’ll see the some numbers written in Command Prompt as shown in the image below.
Step 6 – Now type the following command and press Enter:
fastboot flash recovery recovery file name.img
Step 7 – After that type in the following command and press Enter:
fastboot erase cache
Step 8 – Now reboot your phone.
You have successfully installed ClockworkMod Custom Recovery on your HTC One X. Now let’s root your HTC One X. Make sure you copied the CWM-SuperSU-v.094.zip file as shown in Step 1.
Step 9 – Turn off your phone and boot into Bootloader Mode as you did in Step 2.
Step 10 – From Bootloader menu, navigate to Recovery and select it. Your phone will now boot into Recovery Mode.
Step 11 – From the recovery menu, select Wipe cache partition.
Step 12 – After that, select Install zip form sdcard followed by Choose zip from sdcard and select the CWM-SuperSU-v.094.zip file that you downloaded and copied into your phone in Step 1.
Step 13 – Wait for a few moments. After the flashing process, reboot your phone and look for the SuperSU app in the App Drawer.
